Send me your guess!
You won't win a prize (I’m too cheap for that) but you might rate a mention in next weekend’s newsletter.
Here’s another hint — think brook trout, Porte's favorite fish.
And then picture me standing below this pool and either successfully casting into it or getting my line tangled up in a stand of mountain laurel that grows wild and uncontrolled here. Probably both, but the latter seems more likely.
In any case, THAT'S where I am — fishing a mountain stream for brook trout and desperately trying to avoid tripping over a rock and faceplanting myself in the water. I scouted this location yesterday and am looking forward to fishing it today.
I don't have a whole lot of time to devote to this weekend’s newsletter, but I will give you another hint — my wife and I drove nine hours to get here. We're spending the weekend with her old college gang and having a smoking good time (another hint).
I’ll have a trip report for you next weekend.
Stay hydrated.
PS: here's a link to an applejack cocktail to try now that things are finally cooling down.
Giles, wherever you are, I’m jealous. It looks gorgeous. Based on your hints, I’m going to venture a guess that you are fishing the Bluestone at Pipestem state park?? Cheers! 🥃
Harry Middleton country, The Great Smoky Mountains, Cherokee side. It's not Hazel Creek, but that's as deep as I can drill.
