Fascinating piece, Giles. Enjoyed reading. My grandparents had a small farm in Hedgesville. Neat to learn about the area more and of course Strother. The distance he traveled in that age is impressive. I mean, even to Canonsburg, PA for college was an endeavor. Having biked the C&O and GAP from DC to PIT, it makes the distance quite apparent. I support your Strother Day idea. WV celebrates Ramps, Lumberjacks, Strawberries, and ordinary Folk (Folk Festival), why not such a successful child of the mountain state, too?!
Hi James, thanks for stopping by and dropping me a line. Much appreciated. Strother wasn't a perfect human but I think his work deserves a revisit .. warts and all.

Thanks Giles. I'm really enjoying your writing. But to be honest, I don't share your enthusiasm for beards. No offense.
None taken, Nora. And thanks for saying you enjoy the PCAS. Means a lot.
